30-Day Return Window
We want you to love your specimen. You have 30 days from delivery to request a return. We believe in our specimens' quality and want you to have time to properly appreciate your purchase.
How to Initiate a Return
Email us at contact@prehistoriashop.com with:
- Your order number
- Reason for return (optional but helps us improve)
We'll send you a prepaid return shipping label within 24 hours.
Return Requirements
Your specimen must be:
- In the original condition as received
- Accompanied by any certificates of authenticity provided
- Securely packaged to prevent damage during return shipping
Refund Timeline
- Inspection: Within 2 business days of receiving your return
- Refund processing: 3-7 business days to your original payment method
- Bank processing: Additional 2-5 business days (varies by bank)
Most customers see refunds within 7-10 days total.
Items Not Eligible for Return
- Custom-sourced specimens (special orders)
- Items marked "Final Sale"
- Digital products or gift cards
- Specimens returned after 30 days
Exchanges
Each specimen is unique, so we don't do direct exchanges. For a different specimen:
- Return your original item for a refund
- Purchase your preferred specimen separately
We'll expedite shipping on your new order upon request.

International Orders
- Fossils: Generally ship worldwide (subject to destination country regulations)
- Modern shark teeth: Available for U.S. sales only due to wildlife regulations
- International returns: Customer responsible for return shipping costs and customs fees
Trade Show Purchases
In-person purchases at trade shows follow the same 30-day policy. Include your show receipt with return requests.
Condition Standards
Natural specimens vary in color, size, and characteristics. "Original condition" means:
- No additional damage beyond what was photographed/described
- No modifications or mounting attempts
- No exposure to chemicals or treatments
Rare Jewelry Collection Return Conditions
Our 30-day return policy applies to jewelry with these specifications:
Full Refund Available When:
- Piece remains unworn beyond initial try-on
- All original tags and certificates included
- Returned in original packaging
- No signs of wear, stretching, or adjustment
Signs of Wear Include:
- Scratches on metal components
- Stretched or kinked chains
- Body oil/perfume/makeup residue
- Modified clasps or settings
- Evidence of ultrasonic cleaning
Hygiene & Safety:
- Earrings: Must have original hygiene seals intact
- Worn pieces: Eligible for store credit only (health regulations)
Custom/Modified Pieces:
- Resized items: Store credit only
- Custom orders: Final sale
- Requested modifications: Final sale
