NWD: When cleaning and polishing shark teeth, some number of abrasive surfaces can be involved. This is a good thing...usually. In this case, the tooth flew a little too close to the su–, er, grinding wheel. I decided to cap it anyway, because it's still beautiful, absolutely wearable, and the 'boo-boo' is on the back where no one will see it. Honesty is the best policy, so this is being offered at a discounted price. – Alex
This pendant features a pristine 1¼-inch fossil great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) tooth crowned with a sterling silver cap showcasing traditional Southwestern inlay work of turquoise — uniting millions of years of oceanic history with the rich artistic heritage of the American Southwest.
The fossil tooth dates to the Miocene or Pliocene epochs (approximately 5–15 million years ago), when great whites patrolled prehistoric seas much as their descendants do today. This specimen displays the species' characteristic broad, triangular crown with finely serrated edges — the same dental architecture that has defined apex predators for millions of years. Its compact size and excellent preservation make it ideal for daily wear while maintaining the presence of a statement piece.
The sterling silver cap and vibrant turquoise provide a striking contrast to the fossil's natural earth tones. This marriage of Native American artistic tradition with paleontological specimen creates a piece that honors both natural history and cultural craftsmanship.
Fossil great white teeth with preservation quality suitable for jewelry applications are increasingly sought after by collectors. The tooth's natural mineralization process has created subtle color variations that, combined with the Southwestern inlay work, result in a piece that bridges ancient seas with desert artistry.
Please Note: Each fossil great white shark tooth is a unique geological specimen. Natural variations in preservation, mineralization, and coloration authenticate its ancient origin. The sterling silver cap with turquoise inlay is handcrafted, ensuring each piece carries individual character.
